Student Taken To Hospital After Minibus, SUV Crash In West Hartford: PD, Schools: UPDATE

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A middle school student was taken to the hospital after an SUV and a small school bus collided on Albany Avenue in West Hartford, according to police.

The crash occurred at approximately 7:30 a.m. Monday, Sept. 28, on Albany Avenue in the area of Huntington Drive, West Hartford Police Capt. Aaron Vafiades said.

Vafiades said one middle school student was transported to Connecticut Children's with a complaint of neck pain.

The driver of the SUV remained at the scene following the crash, according to Vafiades.

According to West Hartford Superintendent of Schools Paul Vicinus Jr., five students were aboard the school minibus involved in a crash.

Vicinus described the incident as a "minor and weather-related accident" involving one of the district's minibuses.

"There were five students on board," Vicinus said in an email Tuesday. "An administrator was dispatched to the scene, and alternate transportation was coordinated."

Vicinus said all parents were notified and one parent took their child to a doctor to be evaluated.

"To my understanding, all students are in school today," Vicinus said.
