WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford Hauntings will return for its 22nd year later this month, bringing a new collection of history-based stories to Old North Cemetery.
Hosted by the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society, the nighttime, lantern-lit cemetery tours will take place Oct. 22, 23, 24, 29, and 30 at Old North Cemetery, 80 N. Main St.
This year's production features an America 250 theme, with stories exploring the Revolutionary War's impact on Noah Webster's family, the experiences of Loyalists during the fight for independence, and the lives of West Hartford residents, including Sarah Whitman Hooker and Bristow, who was enslaved in the community during the 18th century.
Organizers said the stories are reconstructed using gravestones, newspaper archives, death notices, wills, and other historical sources, combining local history with outdoor theater and spooky elements.
"We are thrilled to offer this popular event for our 22nd year. 'Hauntings' is a great way to enjoy the spooky season with your friends…and learn a little history at the same time," Noah Webster House Executive Director Jeffrey Mainville said.
Organizers said about 1,000 people attend the event each year.
Here's what to know:
Tickets are nonrefundable, with proceeds supporting the Noah Webster House & West Hartford Historical Society.
Mainville encouraged people to buy tickets early, saying the event generally sells out each year.
"We haven't raised prices in years…and West Hartford Hauntings generally sells out every year," Mainville said. "Folks should consider grabbing tickets for the first week dates of October 22, 23 or 24th."
