WEST HARTFORD, CT — Police said Thursday they are searching for a Ford Explorer believed to have been involved in a hit-and-run crash that seriously injured a 17-year-old boy on North Main Street last week.
In an update released Thursday, Oct. 22, West Hartford police said investigators believe the teenager was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on North Main Street between 7 and 7:30 p.m. Oct. 15.
The vehicle may be a 2011-19 Ford Explorer that likely sustained damage to its passenger-side mirror and windshield trim, according to police.
The teenager, who was hospitalized with serious injuries following the incident, has since been released from the hospital.
Police, firefighters and emergency medical personnel were initially dispatched to the area of North Main Street and Proctor Drive at approximately 9:10 p.m. Oct. 15 after receiving a report of an injured pedestrian.
Responding officers found the 17-year-old boy just off the roadway with serious injuries.
He was transported to a local hospital for treatment.
Police said no vehicle potentially involved in the incident remained at the scene when emergency personnel arrived.
The West Hartford Police Department's Accident Reconstruction Team was called to investigate.
Investigators have since determined the teenager was likely struck approximately 90 minutes to two hours before emergency responders were dispatched.
Police are asking residents and motorists who may have surveillance video or dashboard camera footage from the area to contact investigators.
Authorities are particularly interested in footage recorded between 7 and 9:15 p.m. Oct. 15.
