WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford Community Theater is bringing the famously spooky Addams Family to the stage this November with a musical comedy exploring love, family relationships and the challenges of growing up.
The community theater group's production of "The Addams Family" will run for two weekends, Nov. 6-8 and Nov. 13-15, featuring a cast of local performers.
It will take place at Duffy Elementary School, 55 Westminster Drive.
Based on the characters created by cartoonist Charles Addams, the musical follows Wednesday Addams, who has grown up and fallen in love with a young man from an ordinary family.
When Wednesday tells her father, Gomez, about the relationship, she asks him to keep it a secret from her mother, Morticia.
The request puts Gomez in an uncomfortable position as he struggles to balance his daughter's wishes with his devotion to his wife.
The situation becomes even more complicated when Wednesday invites her boyfriend and his parents to dinner at the Addams family home, setting the stage for an evening that brings two very different families together.
Although the musical features the dark humor and unconventional characters associated with the Addams family, the story also explores familiar themes involving marriage, parenthood, relationships, and accepting loved ones for who they are.
The production will feature musical numbers, comedy, and a cast of local actors portraying the eccentric family and those who enter its unusual world.
West Hartford Community Theater describes the show as a "celebration of the differences that make families unique."
