Foodshare's 'Turkey & a Twenty' in West Hartford Center

Foodshare volunteers will coordinate a two-day Thanksgiving food and funds drive on November 17 and 18. 

In support of Foodshare’s Turkey and a Twenty Campaign, which runs throughout the month, donations of turkeys and cash will be accepted on Thursday, November 17 and Friday, November 18 from 7 am - 4 pm both days in front of the Town Center Building, 29 South Main Street, in West Hartford Center. 

Financial donations during Turkey time allow Foodshare to provide long term support for those facing difficult times, while also ensuring neighbors in need can enjoy a traditional Thanksgiving meal. Foodshare works with 300 local programs throughout the year to ensure our hungry neighbors receive the help they need.

“Hunger is a year-round issue for many people in our community,” says volunteer Kate Foley. “We’re happy to help put a turkey on their Thanksgiving table as well as collect contributions to help provide food for the rest of the year.”

Tom Trumble and Kathleen Costello started the West Hartford Turkey and a Twenty campaign two years ago, and are excited to expand the event to two days and add an early morning slot for commuters on the way to work.  “I love putting on a silly hat for a great cause,” says Tom Trumble, who usually sports a festive turkey hat during the collection.  “Foodshare really makes a difference in the effort to end hunger in our community.”

This year, a second day will be staffed by volunteers from YHB Investment Advisors, who adopted Foodshare for their annual community service projects. “Community service brings our company together on so many meaningful levels,” says Kate Foley.  “We’ve really enjoyed volunteering together for Foodshare – be it at last May’s Walk Against Hunger or sorting food at the regional market. We’re looking forward to joining Tom and Kathleen for Turkey and a Twenty.”
