West Hartford Resident Natalie Wright is runner up winner in ebm-papst Inc.’s Every Day is a GreenDay Video Contest

West Hartford and Farmington, Conn., January 2, 2012 – Naugatuck resident Ymarc Ancheta, 17, a student at the American School for the Deaf in West Hartford, has been selected as Grand Prize winner in ebm-papst Inc.’s Every Day is a GreenDay video contest, winning an iPad 3.
West Hartford resident Natalie Wright, 13, a student at King Philip Middle School in West Hartford, was selected as the runner up winner. As her prize, she received a basket of green products that included a recycled PET backpack, a stainless steel insulated sports bottle, a recycled plastic ruler, a non-toxic glue stick, a box of eco-friendly colored pencils and an assortment of recycled-paper notebooks, markers, pencils and papers for school.
As part of a global “Every Day is a GreenDay” initiative by ebm-papst offices around the world, the contest, created by the company's Farmington, Conn.-based North American headquarters, encouraged students ages 13-18 in Hartford County to submit a two-minute video that demonstrates the ways they incorporate environmentally responsible practices into their lives at home and school.

Ancheta received creative support for his video from six of his high school classmates at the American School for the Deaf. Ahmed Khamis Al Kaabi, Ahmed Saif Al Kaabi and Abdul Al Nuaimi, all of Al Ain, United Arab Emirates, Marcus Greco of Terryville, Conn., Dennis Donis of Stamford, Conn., and Shanice Nixon of Bridgeport, Conn. collaborated with him to develop and produce the video. The students, many of whom want to pursue engineering degrees, will return to ebm-papst’s facility for a production tour in the spring.
Ancheta and his team regularly enter video competitions as part their video production class, and the Every Day is a GreenDay project offered a unique opportunity to encourage others to be environmentally responsible. The resulting video, A Day in the Life of Ymarc, takes the viewer through the numerous ways that Ancheta and his family save energy and resources, including waking up to natural sunlight, reducing water use, walking to school, eating locally grown fruits and vegetables, washing clothes in cold water and hanging them to dry, driving a hybrid car and purchasing used soccer shoes on Craigslist.

Before filming her Being Green video, Wright worked with her actively-green family to brainstorm the 26 things they do every day to conserve energy and resources. As a family, the Wrights’ green activities include composting, recycling paper, plastic and glass, cutting the grass less frequently, hanging wash to dry, keeping appliances unplugged, and not purchasing bottled water.
“ebm-papst created the Every Day is a Green Day contest to encourage the same GreenTech philosophy that we incorporate in everything our company does to innovate while conserving energy, resources and the environment,” said ebm-papst Inc. CEO Bob Sobolewski. “The video that Ymarc and his classmates created blew us away. It demonstrates that our young people really do “get” green living and want to make our world a sustainable place to live and work.”
