Friday night's incident continues a disturbing trend on West Hartford's roadways.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Another day, another pedestrian hit by a vehicle in West Hartford.

The good news, however, was the person hit by a car, was transported for "non-life threatening injuries," according to the West Hartford Police Department's Twitter feed.

Detours were put in place as, once again, local police were investigating another car-versus-pedestrian incident.

This latest incident has a much better outcome compared to two vehicle-versus-pedestrian incidents at the end of December, both of which were fatalities.

On Dec. 20, an 89-year-old woman was killed in the street by a vehicle and, the next day on Dec. 21, so was a 60-year-old man.

Then, on Christmas Day, three people were killed in a two-vehicle, head-on collision in town.

The situation mirrors an epidemic of traffic and pedestrian fatalities in Connecticut, with West Hartford officials expected to soon convene a task force to investigate why the town has been such a dangerous place to drive and walk.

Meanwhile, the West Hartford Town Council on Tuesday, Jan. 10, is expected to vote on an initiative to join a worldwide movement called "Vision Zero," a pedestrian/traffic safety movement where communities pledge to do whatever it takes to stop fatalities on roadways and sidewalks.
