Ballet Theatre Company Faculty Member Earns Statewide Recognition
Thomas Giroir of the BTC in West Hartford is a recipient of CDA's Distinguished Achievement in Dance Award.

The Ballet Theatre Company in West Hartford recently had two faculty members be awarded with Connecticut Dance Alliance’s 2014 Achievement in Dance awards. Executive Director Tracy Dorman and faculty member Thomas Giroir were recognized for their achievements in teaching and dance photography.

Giroir earned his BFA in Dance at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas and joined the Hartford Ballet where he danced for nine years. Before his knee injury in 1982, Giroir had many principle roles including Romeo in Michael Uthoff’s Romeo and Juliet, the Prince in Nutcracker, and the title role in Tom Dula.

After retiring from dance, Giroir pursued a career in Dance Photography and since then has worked with many dance companies and schools in New England. In addition to his photography he teaches ballet in the Greater Hartford area at several dance studios, including Ballet Theatre Company.
The Connecticut Dance Alliance is a not for profit organization dedicated to building audiences and increasing the awareness and presence of dance in the state. Giroir appreciatively receives the award and looks forward to continuing his work as a photographer and dance teacher.
