Basketball Officials Honor NWC Girls’ Basketball Team with Sportsmanship Award

Northwest Catholic Girls' Basketball honored for good sportsmanship.

On May 24, 2017 Peter Palermino of the Executive Committee of the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) District 6 presented its Annual Sportsmanship Award to Northwest Catholic High School Girls’ Basketball Team.

Varsity Girls’ Basketball Coach Sean O’Brien along with other officials from the school accepted the award on the team’s behalf. Palermino explained to the group assembled to honor and represent the Northwest Catholic girls’ basketball program that the award means a great deal to the officials. Palermino listed the criteria required to earn this distinction and explained why NWC won this honor, focusing on the good sportsmanship demonstrated throughout the season. He commended O’Brien on his team’s spirit and said how much the officials appreciate working with O’Brien specifically.

Founded in 1923, the International Association of Approved Basketball Officials (IAABO) is a professional organization managed by and for basketball referees.
