Beloved WeHa/Hartford Park Named A Top Picnic Area In U.S.

The park, which is located in both West Hartford and Hartford, was ranked among the nation's top 'unknown' picnic areas.

WEST HARTFORD/HARTFORD, CT — A beloved municipal park located in both West Hartford and Hartford is one of the nation's best "unknown" picnic spots.

Mixbook.com surveyed thousands of Americans and recently published a list of the top 125 virtually unknown picnic spots across the U.S.

Elizabeth Park, located at 1561 Asylum Ave., West Hartford/Hartford, was ranked 61st in the country on the list.

Featuring lush gardens and a plethora of natural beauty, the park is home to walking trails easily accessible by all.

And, according to both Mixbook.com and the Elizabeth Park Conservancy, it is a perfect place for a picnic, even though it doesn't feature plenty of picnic tables.

Because of that, the conservancy recommends folks bring a blanket whenever they visit, for sitting on the lush grounds is the preferred means to enjoy a home-brought meal or takeout at the Pond House Café on site.

"These lesser-known locations, cherished for their tranquility and natural beauty, offer the perfect escape from the crowds and noise of more frequented areas. Nestled in remote mountains, hidden within dense forests, or beside scenic lakes, these top-rated spots promise a peaceful retreat where you can truly connect with nature."

The other Connecticut site, Enders State Forest in Granby, placed 83rd in the rankings.

The top three spots went to Leu Gardens of Orlando, Fla., Shelby Farms Park in Memphis, Tenn., and Alafia River State Park in Lithia, Fla. Other New England locations were:
