Big Changes Coming To West Hartford Public Library

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The West Hartford Public Library system is preparing to launch a new catalog platform next week, a transition officials say will improve how patrons search for materials and manage their accounts.

Library officials said the new catalog is expected to launch Wednesday, June 3, though timing remains subject to change.

As part of the migration process, some library services at the Noah Webster, Bishop's Corner, and Faxon sites are temporarily limited through Wednesday, June 3.

During that period, patrons will not be able to place holds or access their library accounts online. The catalog will remain available for browsing, though officials warned that information displayed may not be current.

Despite the system transition, all library branches will remain open for browsing, borrowing and regular services, according to the library system.

Staff members will continue assisting patrons with locating and checking out materials.

Library officials said no materials will be due during the migration period.

Patrons are being asked to bring their library cards when visiting library branches because staff will have limited ability to look up accounts during the transition.

Items will also remain at their owning library locations during the migration, meaning materials will not travel between branches until the new system is operational.

“We’re excited to share that we’re migrating to a new catalog in June,” the library system said in an announcement.

Officials added that the new system will include “lots of upgrades to how you search for materials and manage your library account.”

The transition to the new catalog system was scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. ahead of the anticipated June 3 launch.
