Police say there is a connection between the decomposed body found in a car Sunday evening in West Hartford and a missing person case in Farmington.
The West Hartford and Farmington police departments are working on the case together and both say the deceased person has not been positively identified yet.
West Hartford police received a call around 5:38 p.m. on Aug. 23 about a suspicious car parked in the Corbin’s Corner Shopping Center with reports that there was possibly a body in the back seat.
Officers arrived, located the vehicle and discovered that there was the body of an adult male in the car and that the body had clearly been there for some time, according to West Hartford Police Lt. Ted Stoneburner.
West Hartford police are treating the case as an untimely death and say the incident poses no risk to the neighborhood.
An alert had previously been put on the car by the Farmington Police Department and it was believed being used by a missing person.
The identity of the victim found in the car has not been determined and no cause of death has been established, according to Stoneburner.
Farmington Police Lt. Colin F. Ryan said the department took a missing person complaint from the owner of Cellairis, a kiosk in the Westfarms Mall, on Aug. 19 but the missing male employee had not been seen by friends, family or co-workers since he left the mall at 9:33 pm on Aug. 11.
Ryan said the vehicle in the West Hartford investigation is the same vehicle that Farmington PD’s missing person was driving when he left the mall on Aug. 11.
Ryan said they are not releasing the name of the missing person until the deceased individual has been identified.
