Business Personal Property Declarations Due In West Hartford

Real estate or registered motor vehicles are not to be declared as business personal property.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Business people in West Hartford have just over a month to declare their business personal property to the town assessor to avoid penalties. October 1 of each year is the assessment date in West Hartford, and all business personal property must be declared to the assessor, by the owner or agent, on or before Nov. 1 to avoid a 25 percent assessment penalty imposed under Connecticut General Statutes.

Personal property consists of unregistered motor vehicles, machinery and equipment, furniture, fixtures and equipment, technology equipment, farm machinery, farming tools, mechanics tools, electronic data processing equipment, telecommunication equipment, cables, conduits, pipes, expensed supplies and all other taxable goods. Real estate or registered motor vehicles are not to be declared.

Anyone with questions may contact the West Hartford Assessment Office, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday and Wednesday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, and 8:30 a.m. to p.m. Thursday; the office is closed Fridays.
