Candlelight Vigil In West Hartford To Remember Victims Of Nepal Flooding

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The Nepalese Association of Connecticut will hold a candlelight vigil Sunday in West Hartford to remember those who died in devastating flooding along the China-Nepal border.

The vigil is scheduled for 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 6, on the front lawn of West Hartford Town Hall, 50 S. Main St., near the auditorium steps. The event is open to the public.

Organizers said the gathering will remember lives lost after a series of flash floods struck the border region Aug. 26, destroying the Gyirong checkpoint and causing extensive damage in Nepal's Rasuwa area.

The Nepalese Association of Connecticut is also encouraging people to support disaster rescue, relief, and rehabilitation efforts in Nepal.

Donations can be made to the Government of Nepal's Prime Minister's Disaster Relief Fund through its official donation portal.

"Stand with Nepal. Come to the vigil. Give what you can," the association said in its announcement.
