Police are asking for help identifying a man accused of stealing $90 worth of candy and running off after a struggle with police.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Police are asking for the public’s assistance with identifying a man who was riding a “lime” bicycle after stealing $90 worth of candy from Aldi and ran off after fighting through a Taser during a struggle with police. Aldi, located at 511 New Park Avenue in West Hartford, reported a shoplifting at about 10:37 a.m. on Aug. 31. An officer arrived in the area and located a man who matched the description given and was riding a “lime” bicycle and wouldn’t stop and comply with the officer, according to Capt. Michael Perruccio.

“The officer tackled the suspect to the ground, but the suspect was able to run away with the officer in foot pursuit,” Perruccio said in a press release. “The officer caught up with the suspect in a yard on Foley St. and deployed his Taser. The suspect was able to fight through the Taser and ran off again.”

Police set up a perimeter and a K-9 team was brought in to assist in the search for the suspect but was unsuccessful, according to Perruccio. To sign up for West Hartford breaking news alerts and more, click here.
