Checker-Board Featured at the Duncaster Art Gallery During Dec.
Local collage artist Joy Floyd transforms discarded bits and pieces of cloth, wood, metal, paper, leather, glass into unique works

“Checker-Board” will grace the walls of the Duncaster Art Gallery throughout the month of December. There will be a reception for the artist, Joy Floyd, on December 1 at 4:00 p.m. The exhibit will be open Monday through Friday from 9:00 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. until Dec. 28.
Floyd’s home-life was the inspiration for her interest in collages with the help of some art education courses at Southern Connecticut State University. Floyd’s work is abstract, using discarded bits and pieces of cloth, wood, metal, paper, leather, glass, etc. The work of this exhibit is primarily a new venture concentrating on all sorts of scrap papers – packing papers, empty boxes, ads, sandpaper, cards and other odds and ends. Floyd’s work has been featured in numerous one-woman shows, beginning with the Hartford Seminary in 1988.
Each month Duncaster showcases the work of different local artists. The exhibits are open to the public during business hours. The program reflects Duncaster’s commitment to encouraging creativity within the community.
