Assumption College, Worcester MA

  • The Assumption Department of Athletics announced that Nicholas Gaglioti, of West Hartford, was named to the roster of the 2020 Assumption baseball team. Though the spring season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Gaglioti, Class of 2022, competed during the Greyhounds' spring games in North Carolina and Florida.
  • The Assumption Department of Athletics announced that Marisa Haverty, of West Hartford, has earned a spot on the 2020 Assumption women's lacrosse team. Though the spring season was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Haverty, Class of 2020, competed in the first three games of the season.

Eastern Connecticut State University, Willimantic CT

  • Two Eastern Connecticut State University students interned with Eastern's dining services provider, Chartwells, on a major project meant to promote underused foods from the ocean. Eastern along with three partnering universities received two Food Vision Prizes of $250,000 each from the Henry P. Kendall Foundation to increase the consumption of kelp and underutilized fish on their respective campuses. Students Emily Chu and Amber Mohr were integral to the projects' outreach efforts on and off campus. Chu is a senior from West Hartford who majors in Business Administration and Communication. She served as an event coordinator and community liaison, and was key in bringing kelp and underutilized fish dishes to the Covenant Soup Kitchen in downtown Willimantic for a kitchen-takeover event that fed more than 100 people.
  • The Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors baseball team was off to a 4-1 start in its 2020 season of play before the NCAA cancelled all college sports through the end of the school year due to concerns over the coronavirus pandemic. Nonetheless, 39 student athletes made the team, which was vying for another competitive season in the Little East Conference (LEC). Among the scholar athletes is sophomore Colby Jones of West Hartford, number 28, who plays infield and majors in Communication.

Ithaca College, Ithaca NY

  • Caroline Grant of West Hartford was recently initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective all-discipline collegiate honor society. Grant is among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.

St. Lawrence University, Canton NY

  • Three students from West Hartford have been selected for inclusion on the Dean's List for academic achievement during the fall 2019 semester at St. Lawrence University. They are Alessandra Mitrano, a member of the Class of 2021 majoring in Francophone studies; Natalie Nordyke, a member of the Class of 2022; and Ganesh Petterson, a member of the Class of 2023.
