Colgate University, Hamilton NY

  • Emma Kane, a member of the Colgate University Class of 2023, has earned the fall 2019 Dean's Award with Distinction. Kane is from West Hartford and is a graduate of the Loomis Chaffee School. Students who receive a term grade point average of 3.6 or higher while completing at least three courses during the fall 2019 semester earn the Dean's Award with Distinction.
  • Students who receive a term grade point average of 3.3 or higher while completing at least three courses for a conventional letter grade earn the fall 2019 Dean's Award for Academic Excellence. Recent honorees from West Hartford were Deanna Michaels, a graduate of William H. Hall High School, and Jonathan Aguilera, a graduate of Conard High School.

  • Eastern Connecticut State University's Communication Department inducted 39 new students into the Lambda Pi Eta national honor society and awarded students for excellence in radio, research, television, leadership, journalism and photography. Among those honored was new inductee Emily Chu, a senior from West Hartford who majors in Business Administration and Communication. Lambda Pi Eta is the international honor society for communication with 400 active chapters worldwide. The honor society recognizes students for excellence in the field of communication and supports professional development. To be eligible, students must have completed at least 12 credits of communication study, have a GPA of at least 3.25, be in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class and display commitment to the field of communication.

Fordham University, Bronx NY

  • Brendan Houlihan and Ana Mangini, both of West Hartford, recently were initiated into The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi, the nation's oldest and most selective collegiate honor society for all academic disciplines. They are among approximately 30,000 students, faculty, professional staff and alumni to be initiated into Phi Kappa Phi each year. Membership is by invitation only and requires nomination and approval by a chapter. Only the top 10 percent of seniors and 7.5 percent of juniors are eligible for membership.

Lasell University, Newton MA

  • One of Lasell University's athletes has been busy during this quarantine. Junior Tyrek Robinson of West Hartford and his mother have been making and delivering masks to help the local hospital near his home. His mother makes these masks by hand and Tyrek will deliver them to his local hospital in Hartford.
