Cometh to West Hartford And Enjoy Some Shakespeare

The 30th annual Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival comes to the University of St. Joseph from July 14-31.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Now is the time to cometh to West Hartford and enjoy the peace and tranquility of classic comedy, Shakespeare style.

Starting Thursday, July 14, the 30th edition of the Capital Classics Theatre Company's annual Greater Hartford Shakespeare Festival will put on the Shakespearean classic comedy "Much Ado About Nothing."

The festival runs July 14-31 on the grounds of the University of St. Joseph campus in West Hartford.

Performances take place outdoors unless it rains, where it will move to an indoor, on-campus destination at the 1678 Asylum Ave. site.

According to the theater company's wesbite, "'Much Ado About Nothing' is a play of wits and wills featuring one of Shakespeare's most iconic (and argumentative) couples: Beatrice and Benedick."

It features "witty banter, false accusations, broken promises and romance."

It is being directed by Capital Classics Artistic Associate and Company Co-Founder Geoffrey Sheehan.

“Much Ado About Nothing is one of Shakespeare’s best-loved comedies, and it’s been a surprisingly long time since Capital Classics has performed it,” said Sheehan on the organization's website. “We’re looking forward to bringing it to our stage again and spending the summer laughing and loving with our audience.”

Audience members are asked to bring their family, friends, lawn chairs, blankets and picnic dinners.

In addition, they should be mindful that Capital Classics will continue to follow recommendations from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the State of Connecticut for Covid safety protocols.

Affordability is also a goal of the festival, with general admission $20, $14 for seniors and students with ID and children 10 and under free. Groups of 10 or more also get in for $14 each.
