Controversial West Hartford Apartment Complex To Add More Units
The West Hartford Town Council approved the developer's request for the Steele Road apartments, despite the objections of some residents.

Despite the objections of some neighborhood residents, the West Hartford Town Council approved an amendment that adds 10 units to the controversial apartment complex at 243 Steele Road, according to the Hartford Courant.
The Courant reports the council approved the developer’s request by an 8-1 vote with Councilman Leon Davidoff casting the dissenting vote.
Among the concerns of residents who were against the request was that the original proposal called for a 200-unit complex, but the developer agreed to cut it down to 150 to gain the council’s approval in 2014 but was now coming back to add more units, according to the Courant.

The developer, Geoffrey Sager, plans to increase the number of units to 160 by dividing in half five of the existing two bedroom units to make them one-bedroom units, which Sager told the council is proving to be more desirable to young professionals and seniors, according to the Courant.
