Diabetes Education Series Starts Wednesday In West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD/BLOOMFIELD CT — A virtual workshop series by the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District starts Wednesday, Oct. 18, to help diabetics keep their diet healthy and their lifestyles functioning.

The seven-week, virtual sessions start Wednesday and continue through early December.

Participants will be able to join registered dietitian and certified care and diabetes education specialist Paula Leibovitz for a free series that will focus on managing diabetes and eating well while following diabetic guidelines.

This workshop series is for individuals with type 2 diabetes who are newly diagnosed or who may need an update on managing their condition.

Topics discussed will include:

• meal planning and label reading
• monitoring blood glucose
• setting goals for blood glucose and A1C
• diabetes medications and how they work
• exercising safely
• what to do when ill
• how to manage and thrive with type 2 diabetes

There is an opportunity to ask questions and offer comments.

The classes will be held using ZOOM. The health district offers an onsite viewing of the ZOOM classes for participants who struggle with the virtual platform.

Each day will have two separate sessions to benefit residents' schedules.

2023 FALL DATES: Wednesdays: 10/18, 10/25, 11/1, 11/8, 11/15, 11/29 and 12/6 (No class on 11/22)

• DAYTIME session is 10 a.m. to noon.
• EVENING session is 6 to 8 p.m.

Anticipated Winter 2024 sessions are Thursdays: 1/11, 1/18, 1/25, 2/1, 2/8, 2/14 and 2/22
