Diabetes Management Topic Of WeHa Health District Program
The first of seven virtual workshops hosted by the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District is Thursday, April 11.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The local health department is hosting a series of virtual, diabetes self-management workshops starting Thursday, April 11.
The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health Districtclasses begin April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. and continue every Thursday for six weeks after that.

Participants can join registered dietitian/diabetes education specialist Paula Kellogg Leibovitz for a virtual seven-week series focusing on managing diabetes and eating well while following diabetic guidelines.
The diabetes workshop series is for individuals with type 2 diabetes who are newly diagnosed or who may need an update on managing their diabetes.

Topics include:
- meal planning using the plate method and beginning carbohydrate counting
- label reading
- monitoring your blood glucose
- setting goals for your blood glucose and A1C
- diabetes medications and how they work
- exercising safely
- what to do when you are ill
There is an opportunity for questions and comments.
The spring workshop dates are Thursdays, April 11, 18, 25, May 2, 9, 16, and 23, from 6 to 8 p.m.
This workshop is supported by a grant from the CT Department of Public Health to the West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District.
