The Mandell JCC Ends the Dog Days of Summer With Its Inaugural Doggie Duathlon/Dash; September 9, 2012

(August 2, 2012, Bloomfield, CT) End summer on the right paw—err, foot—with the Mandell JCC Inaugural Doggie Duathlon/Dash on Sunday, September 9, 2012 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at the Mandell JCC’s summer site, The Swim & Tennis Club, 4 Duncaster Road, Bloomfield, CT. A portion of the event proceeds will go to the Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation.

At the Doggie Duathlon/Dash, dogs will swim one lap in the pool, followed by leashing up with their owner for a 1.5-mile walk/run. Dogs that can’t swim can still join their owner for the 1.5-mile dash.

From 1:00-4:00 p.m., there will be a free Doggie Expo featuring representatives from various nonprofit and for-profit pet vendors, that is open to the community. Meet Roxy Pelham, canine star of “Roxy's Forever Home,” a children's book benefiting dog rescue. Roxy and her human, Hartford Courant Parenting Columnist Teresa Pelham, will be on-hand for a book reading and to sign copies of the book, which will be available for purchase. Doggie Duathlon/Dash participants will receive an event t-shirt for all humans and a doggie bag filled with treats for both team members. Participants will also be entered into a raffle and have a chance to win various prizes.
