Farmington Resident Named New Medical Director at Hartford Hospital Senior Primary Care at Duncaster

FARMINGTON, CT, February 2, 2015 – Farmington resident, Sowmya Kurtakoti, MD has been named Director, Duncaster Retirement Community Medical Services for Hartford Hospital Senior Primary Care at Duncaster. Dr. Kurtakoti will see residents of Duncaster as well as non-residents and is accepting new patients to the practice.
Hartford Hospital Senior Primary Care at Duncaster is the first of its kind in a continuing care, retirement community in the region. It provides primary medical care and geriatric consultative services to members of the local community ages 55 and older, whether or not they live at Duncaster.
Before joining Hartford Hospital Senior Primary Care at Duncaster, Dr. Kurtakoti was a Primary Care Physician at Hartford Healthcare Medical Group in Farmington. She is Board Certified in Geriatrics and Family Medicine. Her Fellowship in Geriatrics was at Hennepin County Medical Center, Minneapolis, Minnesota and her Residency in Family Practice was at the Smiley’s Clinic University of Minnesota Program. She earned her medical degree from the Shri B. M. Patil Medical College and Research Center in Bijapur, India.

Dr. Kurtakoti is the co-chair of the Geriatric Council of the Hartford HealthCare Institute for Geriatric & Palliative Medicine. She has served as a board member for the Alzheimer’s Association, Connecticut and is a member of their Medical and Scientific Advisory Committee. She is a member of the American Academy of Family Physicians; the Connecticut Academy of Family Physicians; the American Academy of Physicians of India Origin and the American Geriatrics Society. She is a frequent public presenter on issues involving health and aging and spoke at Duncaster last year as part of their monthly series, The Art and Science of Graceful Aging.
Dr. Kurtakoti is now accepting new patients at the Duncaster practice where she holds weekly office hours Monday through Friday.

A resident of Farmington, she and her husband, Suraj Kurtakoti have two children.

Hartford Hospital Senior Primary Care at Duncaster offers primary medical and geriatric specialty care to residents of the local community ages 55 and older, whether or not they live at Duncaster.
