Flu Shots, Touch-A-Truck Highligh West Hartford Community Preparedness Day

WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford residents can learn how to prepare for emergencies while checking out town vehicles, getting a flu shot, and meeting local public safety agencies during the town's annual Community Preparedness Day.

The event is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 26, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the West Hartford Town Hall parking lot.

Held during National Preparedness Month, the event will include emergency preparedness information, free giveaways, a ham radio demonstration, and a Touch-A-Truck activity.

Residents will also be able to sign up for the town's emergency notification system.

The West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District will offer flu vaccinations for people ages 4 and older.

Pediatric vaccines and high-dose vaccines for people 65 and older will be available. Free Narcan kits will also be distributed.

The American Red Cross will provide information about home fire safety, storm preparedness, and its Emergency! app.

Children's activity books will also be available.

Participating organizations include the West Hartford Office of Emergency Management, West Hartford Fire Department, West Hartford Police Department, West Hartford Public Works Department, West Hartford-Bloomfield Health District, West Hartford Animal Control, West Hartford Prevention Partnership, and West Hartford's Community Emergency Response Team.

Residents interested in joining CERT can learn about the town's upcoming six-week basic training course, which begins Saturday, Oct. 3. The training is free, but registration is required at https://www.westhartfordct.gov/cert.
