Essentially with "food shares," a member pays a farm up front for a "share" of whatever harvest is on the market.
"Through hands-on investigations into nature journaling and worm composting, a cooking demo, panel discussion, and more, participants will explore important questions," wrote organizers in an announcement
"What is a sustainable and just food system? What could it look like in our community?"
root2RISE is a local, nonprofit committed to cultivating relationships between people, land, and food.
Through intentional education, advocacy, and action, root2RISE works to provide space for conversations rooted in place, culture, and community.
The organization believes equitable access to land and healthy food leads to the transformation toward resilient and sustainable communities.
“Making space for conversations about food, land, and community has the potential to reconnect people to themselves and the living world around them,” said Nakia Alexander, co-director. “We believe that everyone deserves to feel a sense of belonging to the land.”
The program is inspired by the concept of "Community-Sponsored Agriculture."
This Fall, everyone is invited to celebrate the season of harvest and all that comes from the land around us.
