Free Fishing Education Event Slated In West Hartford

The program will take place on Tuesday, June 25, at Beachland Park Pond.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The town and state are collaborating on a special program early next week to teach folks how to wet a line and haul in a lunker.

The West Hartford Leisure Services Department and the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP) Fisheries Division are conducting the program Tuesday, June 25, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at West Hartford's Beachland Park Pond, 847 S. Quaker Lane.

The event is part of the Connecticut Aquatic Resources Education (CARE) program that teaches people to "FISH with CARE."

Guests are invited to Join expert fishing coaches and learn how to get started fishing safely, legally, and successfully. And, the program, is free of charge.

Registration is open at the DEEP Hunting and Fishing Education registration system (Filter by Event Type “FISH with CARE”).

A Conservation Identification Number is required for registration.

Space is limited to 25 participants, so sign-ups are encouraged.

The minimum age to participate is 6 years old and all children are required to have a parent/guardian participate alongside them.

All participants 16 and above must have a valid 2024 inland fishing license, which can be obtained HERE.

Anglers under 16 are encouraged to register for a free Youth Fishing Passport (YFP), which supports our state's popular Youth Fishing Challenge.

Participants should learn the basics of fishing by completing the CARE program’s self-paced Let’s Go Fishing / Vamos de Pescar online course before attending the FISH with CARE event.
