Stricken West Hartford Police Officer Needs Assistance, Here's How You Can Help

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise money for a West Hartford police officer who has endured brutal health problems for nearly two years after a reaction to a vaccine.

The GoFundMe page was set up by Donna Sullivan on behalf of Cromwell resident Susie Kulas, who was hired by the West Hartford Police Department in 2019.

Wednesday, West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241 posted a photo of Kulas on her behalf and urged folks to donate to the cause.

According to the GoFundMe page, Kulas, who is in her early 40s, fell ill in January 2021 due to a bad reaction to a vaccine, saying she suffered "anaphylactic shock from a vaccine and was transported to Hartford Hospital."

The single mother of six nearly died and has been unable to return to work since and has been in and out of the hospital for various complications caused by the damage to her body.

The GoFundMe page did not disclose what type of vaccine was taken that was linked to her medical emergency.

Kulas' financial situation has deteriorated as she's struggled to keep up with medical bills, housing costs and costs associated with raising children on what is now a fixed income, according to the page.

"She has never lost her drive to win this war on her health," reads the GoFundMe post written by Sullivan. "All she ever talks about is getting her life back and putting on that uniform again."

Sullivan wrote Kulas is going in for more surgery Friday as a result of her constant health problems.

Wrote West Hartford Firefighters Local 1241, "Please consider donating to our sister in need of help."
