Get Healthy In March With Several West Hartford Events

The West Hartford–Bloomfield Health District announces free March workshops and clinics.

WEST HARTFORD/BLOOMFIELD, CT — The West Hartford–Bloomfield Health District will host a series of free workshops and wellness clinics in March across West Hartford and Bloomfield.

It will feature programming focused on nutrition, bone health, and overdose prevention.

March is recognized nationally as a time to promote informed food choices and healthy eating habits.

District officials said the campaign encourages residents to focus on balance, variety, and moderation, including incorporating lean proteins, whole grains, healthy fats, and fruits and vegetables into daily meals.

•As part of National Nutrition Month, the district’s health education specialist will lead a workshop on creating balanced meals, reading nutrition labels, and healthy eating on a budget from 10 to 11 a.m. March 20 at Elmwood Senior Center, West Hartford, 1106 New Britain Ave.

Registration is required by calling 860-561-8180.

• The district is also offering free wellness screenings with no appointment required.

Screenings include blood pressure, pulse, oxygen level, blood sugar, and weight. Clinics are scheduled for:

  • 9 to 10:30 a.m. on the first Thursday of each month at Bishop’s Senior Center, 15 Starkel Road.
  • 9 to 10:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of each month at Elmwood Community Center, 1106 New Britain Ave.
  • 8 to 9:30 a.m. every Friday at West Hartford Town Hall, 50 S. Main St.

•A free bone and posture class, offered in partnership with the University of Hartford Physical Therapy Program, will take place from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. on March 20 at Elmwood Senior Center.

The session will cover osteopenia and osteoporosis, bone density imaging, and strategies to support bone health, including exercise, fall prevention, home safety, nutrition, and regular medical review.

•In Bloomfield, a free naloxone training will be held from 12:30 to 1 p.m. on March 14 at Prosser Library, 1 Tunxis Ave.

Participants will learn how to recognize signs of an overdose, administer Narcan, and understand the Good Samaritan Law.

Attendees will receive a free Narcan kit and a $10 gift card to Geissler’s Supermarket.
