West Hartford Hosts Annual CT Walks for Haiti

Wonderful Turnout And Fun For All!!
Joe Furey , Popular FOX CT News weather personality was master of ceremonies for the sixth annual CT Walks For Haiti walk-a-thon and Haitian festival on Saturday, April 25.

Attracting hundreds of supporters, the annual walk through West Hartford Center and Blue Back Square raised funds for established Haitian charities. Attendees gathered at St. Peter Claver parish center for and the Haitian-themed festival, offering authentic Haitian cuisine, crafts, music, and a silent auction.

The festivities began at 10:30 a.m. with music, food, crafts and auction. The mayor and MC Joe furey welcomed everyone and the music began indoors with Hall High School Freshman Choirs:
Rubyfruit an acapella group from UCONN and outdoors with the Interdistrict Steel Pan Ensemble.

The walk started at 12:00 and festivities continued for quests who did not walk. Walkers went to Blue Back Square for more entertainment From UCONN’S Notes Over Storrs:
The the 2.5 mi. walk then returned to St. Peter Claver Center for more entertainment and the silent auction.

CT Walks For Haiti, Inc. is a 501(c)(3) all-volunteer organization. Proceeds from the event went directly as grants to the following charities that have compelling needs:
Haitian Health Foundation - feeding malnourished pregnant women and their young children.

Outreach to Haiti- providing food and vaccinations to malnourished infants and children under five.

Haitian Humanitarian Network - developing a medical outreach program to remote areas too far to travel to clinic.

Medical Aid to Haiti- funding the annual salary of a Haitian nurse for the mobile clinic.

Operation Unisson - providing critical health instruction to children in a summer camp, along with a meal (likely their only meal of the day).
