Hall High School Gets Back into Class LL Soccer Title Chase

The Warriors lost in the quarterfinals Saturday, but were reinstated following the disqualification of their opponent.

Hall High School, which had been eliminated from the CIAC Class LL boys soccer tournament in a quarterfinal match Saturday, will now play in the semifinals due to the disqualification of Bridgeport Central.

Bridgeport had won the match on the field by a 1-0 count, but later discovered one of its players was ineligible, according to a prepared statement from the CIAC.

“Due to a self-report of the use of an ineligible player, Bridgeport Central has been disqualified from the CIAC Class LL Boys Soccer Tournament. Per CIAC by-laws, Hall High School, Bridgeport Central’s quarterfinal opponent, will now play in their place against Glastonbury High School in a semifinal match November 18 at a site and time to be
determined,” the statement said.

CIAC by-laws state, “When it is discovered that a team has used an ineligible competitor in a CIAC team tournament, the tournament game/match shall be forfeited. The team using the ineligible player will be disqualified from the tournament and that team’s last opponent will advance in its place. Teams eliminated prior to the last opponent will not be permitted to re-enter the tournament.”

Hall, the No. 13 seed. is now awarded a 1-0 forfeit victory, and will take on top-seeded Glastonbury. The two teams split a pair of regular season matchups by identical 2-1 scores.
