Hebrew High School of New England Honors Benefactor

Harold Grinspoon honored for longtime support of Jewish initiatives.

The Hebrew High School of New England recently honored those who have helped the school in its goal of shaping the Jewish leaders of tomorrow.

At its 2013 Gala Event on May 29 the school recognized longtime supporter Harold Grinspoon for his dedication.

Harold Grinspoon said, “I know that the education our teenagers receive at HHNE will make them confident and proud Jews who will contribute so much to society... Today’s HHNE students are tomorrow’s Jewish leaders. It is for this reason that I think support of HHNE is so critical. I personally feel so blessed to be part of such a special culture and religion and one of the best ways to transmit this legacy is through Day School education.”

The Harold Grinspoon Foundation is responsible for helping to support programs for children for children from preschool to high school, according to a press release from the school.

He has supported initiatives to provide Jewish children’s books to area children, to support Jewish summer camps, to grant tuition to HHNE and Jewish day schools in Western Massachusetts and fostered teen programs, family education, resource centers for Jewish education, Jewish arts and culture and trips to Israel.

In total, according to the release, the Harold Grinspoon Foundation has dispersed more than $120 million and fostered matching funds of hundreds of millions more.

“If every life that Harold Grinspoon’s efforts has touched becomes a seed, sprouting and spawning, then it is literally impossible to truly measure his impact.  The lives he has enriched go on and touch other lives, paying it forward,” said David Rosen, the Gala’s Master of Ceremonies and incoming HHNE president.

At the ceremony, Reva and Joe Fleischman of New Haven were also recognized with the President’s Award.

The Hebrew High School of New England is a regional, Modern Orthodox, co-educational day school that provides college preparatory Judaic and general studies.
