'Chanukah Fire on Ice' In West Hartford Sunday. What You Need To Know

The area's largest Chanukah celebration starts at 4 p.m. Sunday, the first day of the holiday.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A very festive Sunday is being planned in West Hartford, with the entire community invited to the annual "Chanukah Fire on Ice" celebration.

This year, the event — hosted by the Chabad House of Greater Hartford in West Hartford — will take place on LaSalle Road in West Hartford Center, with the local street transformed into a festive party for the "Celebration of Light."

It is slated for Sunday, Dec. 18, the first day of Chanukah at 4 p.m., just before sundown.
From there, the celebration will feature a festive array of food, fun and music.

In addition, the event will feature a "Grand Chanukah Gift Drop" with the West Hartford Fire Department.

Other events planned include: a live carving of an 8-foot ice Menorah; trackless train rides; arts and crafts; science demonstrations; Chanukah doughnuts and hot latkes; hot coffee and drinks; and a special concert by "8th Day."

Also among festivities that day is the "Be The Light" art contest, in which previously submitted artwork by local children and teens will be judged.

The event will, even, be broadcast live on Youtube, so folks attending can re-live the fun later or folks who cannot attend can see it as it happens.

According to the Chabad House of Greater Hartford, West Hartford is home to the largest Jewish community in the state.

It is located at 2352 Albany Ave., West Hartford, with this annual event one of the biggest, if not the biggest, Chanukah events in the state.
