Last 2 Connecticut Disney Stores Slated To Close

CONNECTICUT — The last two Disney stores in Connecticut — at the Westfarms mall on the West Hartford-Farmington line and at the Danbury Fair Mall — have been designated for closure by the middle of next month.

That was the word in a Monday posting on the Disney news site WDW News Today.

In all, 57 more stores are doomed to be shuttered and the move will leave the Times Square location in New York City as the closest brick and mortar retail outlet to Connecticut.

Disney was seemingly transitioning to a focus on its online retail portal, Shop Disney, after announcing in March that it would close 20 percent of its North American stores, or 60 locations. In 2020, amid the coronavirus pandemic, online commerce increased by 32.4 percent to $797.4 billion. That number threw Disney's online business five years ahead of projections, according to the announcement.

The West Hartford and Danbury stores and the others in the group of 57 are slated to close by Sept. 15, according to the announcement.
