Sheintop, who took over the store after his father Herb died in the 1990s, told the Hartford Courant he made the decision to close mainly because “West Hartford Center is a difficult place to do business right now.”

Sheintop said there were also many contributing factors, including declining sales due to online shopping, more bars and restaurants opening in West Hartford Center than family-owned businesses and a new parking meter system implemented that he said makes it more difficult and confusing for potential customers to find parking or to linger and shop longer, according to the Courant.
