Maintenance Man Charged with Sexual Assault in West Hartford

Police said a maintenance worker has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a West Hartford apartment.

WEST HARTFORD, CT - Police said a maintenance worker has been charged with sexually assaulting a woman in a Caya Avenue apartment. Due to the nature of this sexual assault complaint, police said the name and other personal identifying information about the victim have not been released.

Officers were sent to an apartment complex on Caya Avenue on Thursday in response to reports of a sexual assault that had occurred 20 minutes prior, according to a release. Police said the suspect was reported to be a maintenance worker in the building. (To sign up for West Hartford breaking news alerts and more, click here.)

Responding officers later identified and located Santos Nunez, 43, of New Britain, who was confirmed to be a maintenance man in the building. The victim reported Nunez knocked on her door under the guise of delivering a flyer and walked in, and refused to leave when asked.

Police said the suspect attempted to coerce the victim into performing a sexual act on him, which she refused. The suspect then sexually assaulted her and told her not to tell anyone before leaving, police said.

A child was present and sleeping in the apartment when the incident occurred, police said. Nunez was charged with sexual assault, home invasion and risk of injury to a minor.
