Man, 19, Attempted To Rob Subway: West Hartford Police

The accused was found with an airsoft-type handgun, according to police.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A 19-year-old West Hartford resident was arrested Thursday night after police say he attempted to rob the Subway on New Britain Avenue with an airsoft-type handgun. Police responded to Subway, located at 949 New Britain Avenue, at about 10 p.m. on Jan. 3 on the report of an active robbery with a handgun, according to Capt. Michael Perruccio.

Perruccio said the suspect ran from the scene and was last seen behind Kentucky Fried Chicken, 930 New Britain Avenue. Officers quickly arrived at the scene and located a person that matched the suspect’s description behind the building, according to Perruccio.

The suspect, identified as Julan Mickens, was taken into custody without incident. Mickens was found to be in the possession of an airsoft-type handgun, Perruccio said.

Mickens, 19, of Boulevard in West Hartford, was arrested on charges of criminal attempt at first-degree robbery, illegal use of facsimile firearm and first-degree threatening. He was held on a $250,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court on Friday morning.
