Man Arrested After Yelling Racial Slurs, Brandishing Gun: West Hartford Police

Police said they arrested a man Monday after he allegedly yelled racial slurs at a woman and brandished a gun.

WEST HARTFORD, CT - Police said they arrested a man Monday after he allegedly yelled racial slurs at a woman and brandished a gun.

Officers were initially contacted by a woman who said she was involved in a road rage incident on Park Avenue, according to a release. The incident initially started in Hartford and involved a gun.

The woman said the suspect pulled up next to her vehicle at Whiting Lane and spit on her vehicle while yelling racial slurs. The suspect then allegedly brandished a hand gun.

Officers subsequently found several marks of saliva on the victim's vehicle, who was able to get the license plate and identity of the suspect.

Officers later found the suspect, James Mahler of West Hartford, at his home. He denied having a gun, and police were unable to locate one.

Mahler was arrested and charged with breach of peace. He was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond.

Police advise drivers not to engage in road rage incidents, and to contact the department if an incident should occur.
