Man Selling Phone on Craigslist in West Hartford Robbed, Hit by Car

WEST HARTFORD, CT - Police said a man selling his phone on Craigslist was robbed in a West Hartford parking lot.

On Friday, police received a call about a robbery that occurred at 956 New Britain Avenue. The victim reported that he agreed to meet someone at that location to sell a cellular phone, for which he had placed a “for sale” ad online through Craigslist.

After meeting up, the suspect allegedly pulled out a handgun and threatened to shoot the victim several times while demanding the phones. The victim was then robbed of the phone, in addition to his new phone.

The suspect’s vehicle then struck the victim’s vehicle while fleeing, however the victim was not injured. It was last seen going east on New Britain Avenue.

The suspect was described as a black male with a thick build in his 20's, carrying a small black handgun. He fled in a white vehicle that could possibly have been an Acura.

The WHPD Detective Division is investigating the incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact police immediately.

Police also encourage citizens to use well lit and preferably video recorded public areas to make these types transactions, including the WHPD parking lot.
