Man Sentenced for Fourth of July Burglary in West Hartford

The man was chased and tackled by a resident, who arrived home to find two men burglarizing his house last July.

A man who was caught by a West Hartford resident burglarizing his home last Fourth of July was sentenced to 10 years in prison and six years of special parole, according to the Hartford Courant.

The Courant reports that Christopher Colby, 29, had pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree burglary and two counts of conspiracy.

Colby was arrested last July, along with Roberto Colon, 43, after the homeowner “arrived home to find two males actively burglarizing his home,” according to the police report. “When the two suspects ran out of the home east on Brace Road the homeowner gave chase while calling the police. The homeowner was able to tackle and detain one suspect at the corner of Brace Road and Dale Street.”

Police said Colon was later located by officers hiding in a construction zone on South Main Street.

Colon is serving a sentence of 12 years in prison and eight years of special parole, according to the Courant.
