Montessori School Names Longtime Employee as Head of School

She has been a teacher and administrator at the West Hartford school for two dozen years.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Longtime teacher and administrator Mary McHale has been named Head of School of the Montessori School of Greater Hartford (MSGH).

McHale’s tenure at the school, located at 141 North Main Street, spans 24 years and multiple roles. She most recently served as Director of Admissions for 12 years, and has also served as a classroom teacher, Program Coordinator, Teacher Mentor and member of the Board of Trustees.

McHale has a BA in Sociology from University College Cork and a Master of Education from Harvard University, plus Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) diplomas at both the Primary and Elementary levels.

In addition to her role as an administrator and teacher at MSGH, McHale is also a former parent, as her daughter attended the school from preschool through ninth grade.

“Mary’s deep knowledge and understanding of MSGH’s mission, operations, and culture will serve our community well,” said Board of Trustees Chair Ellen Brown. “Mary’s love and respect for the school and its role in helping children become caring and competent individuals is evident in all that she does and we are so fortunate to have her leading the school.”

McHale succeeds Bev Smith, who served as head for the 2018-2019 school year. She is the 10th head of school in MSGH’s 55 years of operation.

The MSGH school year kicks off Aug. 28.
