Move-in Day Celebrated At USJ In West Hartford
The University of Saint Joseph campus welcomed freshman Friday, signaling the start of a new school semester.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — Nervous frosh and their sentimental parents tearfully descended on the University of Saint Joseph campus in West Hartford for one of life's major milestone's Friday.
There, USJ President Rhona Free and current USJ students welcomed and, even, helped move in new incoming USJ students.
And in doing so, they helped fill the school's residence halls at a level that, officials said, now exceeds pre-pandemic levels.

At it always does at every university, move-in day signals the official end of summer and the start of another college semester for students at the campus, which is located 1678 Asylum Ave.
USJ officials said almost 70 percent of USJ’s new freshmen will be living on campus this fall and overall, on campus occupancy is the highest in USJ’s residence halls since 2013.

The average age of students residing on campus this fall is 19.6.
According to the school, those students come from 14 states and territories and six countries.
Meanwhile, university officials said, 33 percent of USJ’s resident students residing on campus are students of color, mirroring total undergraduate enrollment.
The on-campus occupancy by undergraduate class is 39 percent freshmen, 27 percent sophomores, 20 percent juniors and 13 percent seniors.
All six of USJ’s residents halls will be filled this fall, reports the school as the university expects more than 360 resident students, including 30 newly-recruited players for USJ’s new baseball team.
In preparation, USJ added parking, expanded student lounges and meeting spaces, upgraded classroom and lab spaces and welcomed pharmacy students to the West Hartford campus, the private school said in a statement Friday.
"USJ has so much demand for on campus housing this fall, residence life staff converted and reassigned space to accommodate everyone," wrote the school in a statement. "USJ’s six residence halls are at capacity this fall, well-above pre-pandemic levels."
