New Ice Cream Shop Opening At West Hartford Shopping Destination

The small, growing New England-based chain will occupy the space of a former chocolate shop, which closed last year.

WEST HARTFORD — Residents and visitors will soon have a new place to indulge in the creamy goodness of ice cream in West Hartford.

That's because New Britain-based Frisbie’s Dairy Barn is expanding to West Hartford's Blue Back Square, with plans to open in the former Kilwins space.

The company made its arrival official via social media on Thursday, Feb. 11.

The company describes its handcrafted ice cream as meeting “Super Premium” standards, using high-quality ingredients to create rich, creamy flavors.

“Our handcrafted ice creams are made to meet ‘Super Premium’ standards. Rich, creamy, and high-quality ingredients,” the company said in its announcement.

Frisbie’s operates scoop shops and walk-up locations known for signature flavors, indoor and outdoor seating, and year-round offerings.

The brand has also gained national attention for its annual National Ice Cream Day celebration, when shops remain open for 24 hours straight, serving custom flavors and sundaes throughout the day and night.

“Founded in 2015, Frisbie's is and always has been a place for family, friends, and communities to gather and share homemade ice cream,” said Paul Parks III, co-owner of Frisbie’s Dairy Barn, on the company's website. “We are excited to welcome you to Frisbie's.”

Current locations include New Britain and a seasonal site in Windsor in Connecticut, and North Attleboro, Mass.

A Sturbridge, Mass., location is listed as coming soon.

Blue Back Square is a 550,000-square-foot mixed-use development in the center of West Hartford, featuring retail, dining, residential, and entertainment options. Major tenants include Crate & Barrel, Barnes & Noble, and Cinepolis Cinemas.

An opening date for the West Hartford location has not yet been announced, but it has been reported as opening sometime this spring.
