New Pedestrian Bridge Project Approved In West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A deteriorating pedestrian bridge connecting the Miracle League/Little League recreation complex to its parking area will be replaced using $171,100 in state funding.

The West Hartford Town Council voted unanimously Aug. 12 to accept and appropriate the money for the Miracle League Field Bridge Replacement Project.

The 9-0 vote followed a motion by Councilor Tiffani McGinnis and a second from Councilor Lisa Lazarus.

The town-owned recreation complex at 1700 Asylum Ave. includes three youth baseball fields, including a field designed for children with disabilities, as well as basketball courts, accessible restrooms, and playgrounds.

A pedestrian footbridge connects the athletic fields with a parking lot on the north side of the property.

According to a memorandum from West Hartford Town Manager Richard Ledwith, the bridge has deteriorated over time and needs to be replaced.

The state included $171,100 in its fiscal year 2027 budget for the project. The money will cover design, construction, and landscaping associated with replacing the bridge.

Council approval formally accepted the state funding and amended West Hartford's fiscal year 2026-27 Capital Projects Fund by increasing both estimated revenue and appropriations for the project by $171,100.

The town's corporation counsel's office reviewed and approved the resolution for form and legality, according to Ledwith's memorandum.

The resolution allows expenditures for the bridge project to proceed following its adoption.
