New Thrift Boutique Opening In West Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, CT — For more than 50 years, The Village for Families & Children’s volunteer Auxiliaries in Glastonbury, Simsbury and Suffield have run thrift boutiques (called Second Chance Shops) that benefit The Village. Now, The Village will open a fourth shop on Park Road in West Hartford, in the space formerly occupied by the Clothes Horse.

“We are excited about the opportunity to join the West Hartford community,” Galo Rodriguez, president and CEO of The Village, said in a press release. “Our current Second Chance Shops are successfully run by about 300 volunteers and last year raised $280,000 in support of The Village. We hope to engage West Hartford residents to help us make this new boutique a success.”

The Village for Families & Children provides a full range of behavioral health treatment and support services for children and adults – including parenting education classes, outpatient mental health therapy, substance abuse treatment, and foster care and adoption.

“Whether you’d like to manage shop operations, help shoppers find the perfect item, sort and price donations, or manage social media and outreach activities – there’s something for everyone,” according to a news release. “This is an exciting opportunity to build a thrift boutique from the ground up. This new shop will have support from and be able to leverage the knowledge, experience and expertise of The Village’s other three Auxiliaries and The Village staff.”

An information session will be held at The Village, 1680 Albany Avenue in Hartford, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 4.
