New York Times best-selling author, Ayana Mathis, at Renbrook School

On Friday, April 12, The Renbrook School Author Series will welcome celebrated novelist and Oprah's Book Club 2.0 selected author, Ayana Mathis, to discuss her New York Times' best-selling novel, The Twelve Tribes of Hattie. The event will begin at 8 P.M. and is free and open to the public.

In The Twelve Tribes of Hattie, Mathis, a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop and recipient of the Michener-Copernicus Fellowship, explores fifty years in the life of an African-American family whose matriarch arrives in Philadelphia during the Great Migration in 1923.

Farah Jasmine Griffin, the William B. Ransford Professor of English and Comparative Literature and African-American Studies at Columbia University, will moderate the discussion.

The event, held at Renbrook School, will include a book signing by the author. Wine and light refreshments will be served. The Renbrook Parent Association offers its Annual Author Series, free and open to the public, to generate interest in multicultural and contemporary literature.
