Northwest Catholic sophomore Nancy Gfeller of West Hartford has been named to Team Connecticut and will represent the state in the Eastern High School Ski Championships in March.

The Eastern High School Championships includes the best high school ski racers from North Carolina to Maine and will be held March 5-8 at Mittersill Race Venue, Franconia, NH.

In order to be named to Team Connecticut, Gfeller had to first compete against the top 50 high school racers in Connecticut in the shoot-out’s first day of giant slalom racing. The top 30 finishers, Gfeller included, then competed in the day-two slalom event. The top 12 overall finishers were then named to Team Connecticut to compete at the Eastern High School Championships. Gfeller ranked #5 in the final combined results.

Nancy Gfeller races for an independent team, which is comprised of students from schools without a formal racing program. Northwest Catholic is home to a ski club but does not have a competitive ski team. Like Gfeller, a number of students at Northwest Catholic participate in sports outside of the school’s varsity teams, including iceskating, gymnastics, equestrian, squash, and more.
