Obituary: Charlotte A. Hamlin, 88, of West Hartford

She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend with a great sense of humor and a positive outlook on life.

Charlotte A. Hamlin, age 88, of West Hartford, died peacefully December 4, 2016.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Richard J. Hamlin; her daughter Kathleen and son-in-law Gary Galanto; her son Thomas and daughter-in-law Linda Hamlin; and her daughter Suzanne and son-in-law John LaBrie. She also leaves eleven wonderful grandchildren: Jeff, Julia, Samantha, Emily, Adam, Ben, Maggie, Libby, Max, Hayden, and Evan. Char’s brother-in-law, James Hamlin, and her nephew and nieces, Mike, Colleen and Kim and their families also survive her. She was predeceased by her parents, Frederick and Verna (Neil) Alexander; son, John Hamlin; sister, Marilyn Alexander; and sister-in-law, Carol Hamlin.

Char was born on August 3, 1928 in Rutland, Vermont. She was educated at Mount Saint Joseph Academy in Rutland and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Commerce from The College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY. Char met Richard on a blind date while in college, the beginning of a beautiful life together. Their strong and loving marriage was a source of strength and joy.

She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend with a great sense of humor and a positive outlook on life. Char loved being a homemaker and was also a successful administrative assistant in the banking industry for many years. She had many hobbies including sewing, knitting, painting and yoga.

A funeral mass will be held at The Church of Saint Helena, 30 Echo Lane in West Hartford on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 10:00 AM. A reception in the church hall will follow the service. Interment will be private.
