Obituary: Janet McCarthy O’Brien, 88, of West Hartford
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and was a great friend to many.

Janet McCarthy O’Brien, 88, soon to be 89 in April, of Windsor and West Hartford passed away on Thursday, March 16, with her loving family by her side after a brief illness.
She was born in Hartford on April 19, 1928. Janet was the daughter of the late Grace Sloan and Donald McCarthy and grew up in Hartford where she met her late husband, William J. O’Brien; they were married for 63 years. She attended Weaver High School and the University of Saint Joseph.

She worked at the O’Brien family homes on Shannon Road, Hartwell Road, Columbia Lake and Waterside Lane for over 60 years. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and was a great friend to many.
Janet was a Justice of the Peace, a longtime member of the Woodridge Lake Association, and active member of the Rockledge Woman’s Golf Club. In her seventies, she danced with the “Sophisticated Ladies” tap dancing and performing to the delight of many an audience. She was an active volunteer in her community and an avid bridge player. Janet was a master chef and baker; delighting family and friends with her warmth, generosity and love.

Janet was predeceased by her sister Jean McCarthy, she also leaves her step sister Beth McCormick, her five children, Bill O’Brien, Kathleen Tracy, Tom O’Brien, Mary O’Brien and Nancy O’Brien; her grandchildren Sara Breaux, Abigail Hoffman, Katharine Feiner, Margaret O’Brien, Liam O’Brien and the late Andrew Feiner; and her great grandchildren Isabella Pagan and Tristan and Talon Hoffman; and her niece Erin McCormick and nephew Kevin McCormick; her sister-in-law Jean O’Brien of FL.
Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 22, at the Molloy Funeral Home, 906 Farmington Avenue, West Hartford. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday at Saint Peter Claver Church, 47 Pleasant Street, West Hartford at 10 a.m. followed by her burial at Fairview Cemetery and a reception at the Church Hall.
