Obituary: Lorraine F. Lucht, 92, of West Hartford

She was an avid gardener until 91, taking great pride in her flower beds. She was also a capable baker, and loved to travel.

Lorraine F. Lucht, 92, of West Hartford, the widow of Werner M. Lucht, died Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Avery Heights. Born in Kingscroft, Quebec, Canada, the daughter of Henri and Blanche (Roy) Fauteux, Lorraine immigrated to the United States toward the end of World War II, residing in New York City for several years before moving to Hartford and taking a position with the Hartford Insurance Company. She and Werner met in 1954 and married in August of that year. They lived in Bloomfield for over 10 years as they started their family and later moved with four children to West Hartford in 1968.

Lorraine devoted most of her time to her growing family but worked at CIGNA for 10 years after they were older. She was an avid gardener until 91, taking great pride in her flower beds. She was also a capable baker, and loved to travel.

Later in life, she adored her grandchildren, always interested in their activities and their lives. Lorraine is survived by four children, Michael Lucht and his wife Rebecca of Cromwell, CT, Louise Lucht of Northampton, MA, Richard Lucht and his wife Mila of San Diego, CA, and Christian Lucht and his wife Cynthia of West Hartford, CT; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister, Henriette Choquette and her husband Guy of Worcester, MA; and numerous nieces and nephews with whom she was close.

In accordance with her wishes, a graveside service at Fairview Cemetery, West Hartford will be held in the spring at a date to be announced. The family wished to thank the staff of Avery Heights for their loving care during the final months of Lorraine’s life. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to either the Elizabeth Park Conservatory at elizabethparkct.org or The Carter Center at cartercenter.org.
